AI features
StaticOwl includes AI-assisted features for content teams: drafting and rewriting copy, generating pages and images, checking SEO, linking related content, and applying changes across many pages at once. You can run each of them from the admin, or drive them from an AI assistant connected to StaticOwl.
Connect an assistant through StaticOwl's MCP server at https://app.staticowl.com/api/mcp. See Connect your AI assistant and the guide for AI agents to set that up.
How AI changes flow
AI does not publish on its own. Writing and generation land the same way a person's edits do:
- Review first. Rewrites and generated content arrive as drafts, or as before/after proposals you approve before anything is written.
- Publish when ready. Approved changes go through the normal draft → review → publish steps.
- Roll back if needed. A published build can be rolled back, and changes are recorded in content history like any other edit.
Because of this, you can try an AI feature, look at what it produced, and keep or discard it without risk to the live site.
Writing and rewriting
Inline rewrite
Select a passage and give a one-line instruction — "tighten this," "make it friendlier," "British spelling." You get back a rewrite that keeps the original tone and length unless you ask otherwise.
- In the admin: open the item, select text in the editor, choose Ask AI to rewrite, and type your instruction.
- With your AI assistant: ask it to rewrite a snippet under an instruction; it uses the same action and returns only the rewritten text.
Voice Profile
A per-site style guide — tone words, words to use or avoid, a short house-style note, and sample posts. When it is set, AI writing across the site follows it, so copy reads like your site rather than a generic model.
- In the admin: go to Settings → Voice Profile and fill in the style guide, tone tags, and vocabulary.
- With your AI assistant: ask it to read or update the site's Voice Profile before it drafts anything.
Cleanup and editorial checks
A content cleanup pass tidies imported bodies (stray markup, import artifacts) and stages suggestions you accept or reject. Editorial scans list pages that have not changed in a while and summarize content quality. These checks run without calling a model, so they cost nothing.
- In the admin: run the cleanup and editorial scans from the content tools and review the staged items.
- With your AI assistant: ask it to run a cleanup pass or list stale content, then apply the fixes you approve.
Generation, including images
Pages from a document
Hand StaticOwl a document and it proposes a set of structured pages — and, where it helps, new content types and relationships, preferring the types you already have. Review the plan and choose what to create.
- In the admin: upload or paste a document in the import flow and review the proposed pages.
- With your AI assistant: pass the document text, review the proposal, then apply the pages you want.
Multiple formats from one source
Give a transcript or a recording and get a draft blog post, show notes, social posts, and an SEO-ready transcript in one pass. Review the bundle, then create the pieces you want.
- In the admin: start a derive job from a transcript or media file.
- With your AI assistant: provide the transcript (or a link to a recording), review the drafts, and apply your selection.
Site scaffold
Describe the site you want in plain language and get a proposed structure — content types, starter content, templates, and a theme — that you apply in one step. It works on a fresh site or as a diff over a site already in use.
- In the admin: use the guided site setup and apply the plan it proposes.
- With your AI assistant: chat through the plan, then apply it.
Image generation and editing
Generate an image from a text prompt, or edit one you already have — fill a masked area, extend the canvas, remove a background, or upscale. Generated images can be saved to your media library.
- In the admin: generate or edit images from the Media library.
- With your AI assistant: ask it to generate an image from a prompt, or to edit a source image by URL.
Alt text
Generate accessibility-grade, content-aware alt text for an image, rather than a generic placeholder.
- In the admin: request alt text on a media asset that is missing it.
- With your AI assistant: ask it to write alt text for an image after an upload.
SEO audit and fixes
The SEO tools check your live pages and turn findings into concrete fixes. They build on StaticOwl's SEO handling, which adds structured data, canonical URLs, sitemaps, and social cards at build time — so many issues are resolved by rebuilding, not by hand.
Audit
Crawl your deployed pages for a 0–100 score and a letter grade, with site-level and per-page findings: titles, meta descriptions, canonical tags, a single H1, structured data, social (Open Graph) tags, a responsive viewport, duplicate titles or descriptions, robots.txt and sitemap presence, and broken links.
Fix
Turn the audit into an ordered plan. Some items the build corrects on its own once you rebuild — canonical tags, meta descriptions, structured data, Open Graph, robots, and the sitemap. Others become per-page writing tasks, such as trimming an over-long title, differentiating duplicate titles, fixing headings, or repairing a broken link; you run those with the writing tools. Run the plan as a dry run first, apply it, rebuild, then re-audit to confirm the grade moved.
- In the admin: open SEO audit for the site, review the report, and apply the fix plan.
- With your AI assistant: ask it to run an SEO audit, then run the fix plan — it rewrites the pages it can, rebuilds, and reports the new grade.

Related content and linking
Related-content blocks
Show related items by meaning, not only by shared tags, using the {% similar %} template tag. You stay in control of how much is curated:
Hand-pick the exact items and order with
pin:— nothing is guessed, and a removed item is skipped rather than left as a broken link.Blend curated and suggested picks by pinning a few and letting the rest fill in.
Scope suggestions to a section, category, or series so they stay in the right neighborhood.
Point-in-time — ask for the related content as it stood on a past date, drawn from the content record.
In the admin: add a related-content block to a template, or drive the picks from a field editors manage in the CMS.
With your AI assistant: ask it to set up related-content blocks the way you want them per page or section.
Internal-link suggestions
Scan published pages for phrases that match other pages' titles or slugs and stage link suggestions for review. Nothing is applied automatically — you apply the suggestions you want, and each wraps the matched phrase in a link to the target page. A link-health report lists broken links and orphan pages.
- In the admin: run the link suggester, then review and apply or dismiss each suggestion.
- With your AI assistant: ask it to suggest internal links, review the staged list, and apply the ones you approve.
Bulk transforms
Bulk rewrite
Rewrite one field across many items of a content type under a single instruction, in your site's voice — for example, tightening each product summary or adding a clear call to action. It returns before/after proposals; you apply the ones you approve. Reach for this instead of editing items one at a time.
- In the admin: choose the content type and field, give the instruction, review the proposals, and apply your selection.
- With your AI assistant: start a bulk rewrite, poll until it finishes, review the diffs, and apply the approved proposals.
Site-wide fixes
Run a whole-site health check for missing alt text, thin or stale content, missing SEO descriptions, duplicate slugs, and broken internal links. Most of the scan runs without a model and returns in moments; where an issue has a one-click fix, you can apply it. AI-backed fixes (such as writing alt text or an SEO description) draw on your provider key or credits.
- In the admin: run the site health check and apply the fixes it offers.
- With your AI assistant: ask it to run a health check and apply the fixes you approve.
Bring your own key or use credits
Model-backed features draw on an AI provider. You have two options:
- Bring your own key. Add your provider key to your account; your model usage is then billed by the provider directly.
- Use prepaid credits. Top up credits on your StaticOwl account and let model-backed actions draw against the balance.
Deterministic passes — content cleanup, editorial scans, the local part of the site health check, internal-link suggestions, and the SEO audit — do not call a model and cost nothing to run. When credits run out, a model-backed action returns a clear message instead of failing quietly.
- In the admin: go to Account → AI settings to add a key or check your credit balance.
- With your AI assistant: ask it to report your AI settings, or to add a provider key.
See pricing for what is included on each plan.
