Comparison
StaticOwl vs Contentful
Contentful is a headless, API-first CMS delivered as SaaS: it provides the content back end, and you build and host the front end that serves it. StaticOwl is also structured and typed, but it also builds and hosts the site, publishing static files to a CDN, and runs best-practice checks on every build.

Rendered once, not on every request
A headless setup still renders through a front end you run; a cache in front helps until it misses or has to be invalidated. StaticOwl renders each page once, at build time, and serves static files from a CDN. Nothing in the request path to scale, and no database on the internet.
What you get with StaticOwl
Rendered once, not per request
Each page is built once and served as a static file. The database is never in the request path, and there is no multi-server cache to keep in sync.
Incremental, dependency-resolved builds
Change one field and only the pages that depend on it rebuild, whether the site has ten pages or a million.
Secure by shape, and watched
The published site is static files, with no application server or database exposed to the internet. That is far less surface to attack or patch. Every publish is recorded in a tamper-evident history. StaticOwl also monitors the live files and flags any change that no build produced, so a tampered or out-of-band publish is caught instead of served.
World-class GraphRAG search
Graph-aware semantic retrieval with traceable provenance powers related content and AI answers. The same search also runs fully static: a keyword-plus-semantic index ships with the site, and a built-in widget searches it in the browser. No search service, no third-party bill.
Link checking & SEO audits, every build
Broken internal and external links, orphan pages, missing titles and meta, and structured-data gaps are found on every build. It is built in, not a plugin you install and babysit.
Compliance you can prove
A bitemporal, tamper-evident history reconciles a provable record with data-subject erasure. Posture (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, WCAG) is derived from live data and exportable for an auditor.
Releases, rollback & atomic edits
Publishing is software delivery: build, automatic SEO and accessibility audit, release, one-click rollback. Every change is atomic: it applies in full or not at all, never half-saved.
Work from Claude Code, the UI, or any AI
Edit in the web app, or connect Claude Code, Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT over one MCP endpoint and let it draft, edit, audit, and publish through the same review flow.
Availability on a clear SLA
Static files on S3 and CloudFront carry published AWS service-level agreements, so uptime does not ride on an application server or database you keep running.
Running costs at scale
Contentful hosts the content back end, and you build and host the front end that serves it. At millions of views a month across many pages, that means two cost centers: the Contentful subscription with its content-API and usage, which scale with requests, and the front-end application and build infrastructure you run yourself, scaled to the same traffic.
StaticOwl publishes the whole site as static files to a CDN, so the same views are served from the CDN and object storage, with nothing to scale, patch, or keep online and no separate always-on staging stack. On-site search, related content, and content queries are produced by the Liquid template language at build time and ship as static files, so there is no search service or query layer to run.
Where StaticOwl is not the fit
If you have a front-end team and want a pure content API feeding several apps and channels, omnichannel content reuse beyond a website, or full control of the front-end framework and hosting, Contentful is a strong fit. StaticOwl is the better fit when you want the site itself built, checked, and hosted for you.
